The genesis of Ocean Garbage Patch (OGP) was in 2010 when Scott McKinnon and Shawn Larson (siblings and OGP co-founders) both realized they had the same ultimate goal - to rid the oceans of plastics.
Ocean Garbage Patch is a non-profit corporation and shall operate exclusively for educational and charitable purposes within the meaning of Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding section of any future Federal tax code. It is the mission, duty and purpose of Ocean Garbage Patch to study and remove floating garbage from the North Pacific and to bring awareness to the increasing problem of plastic pollution in our oceans. The research, education, and outreach activities will be aimed toward promoting plastic pollution prevention and cleanup of existing floating plastic debris in the north Pacific gyre. Resources will be directed toward direct involvement in the study and cleanup of plastic debris as well as funding other organizations that work towards those goals.
